Five of the best places to eat in the area

Five of the best places to eat in the area

It's difficult to find a bad place to eat here, apart from McDonald's in Privas.

We'll share five of our favourites, starting with two in Chomérac.

If you like really good pizza, then you have to go to Malt & Pizza. If you like really good pizza and locally brewed speciality beers, then this unpretentious but oh-so-friendly little place on the Place du Bosquet is heaven on earth. You can order the pizzas on the menu with the beer that the pizza chef and beer connoisseur considers most appropriate. As soon as the weather permits, they put the tables outside. There's a good chance that while you're tucking into your pizza (they say you should eat with your hands here), you'll witness another game of pétanque. What a lovely place!

Across the square is Au Jardin De Soie. Cosily decorated, not very large, with a semi-open kitchen and an excellent terrace. As far as we are concerned, owner Gaëlle is perhaps this restaurant's greatest asset. Because this lady can cook! She prepares everything herself, using fresh ingredients from (organic) growers and other suppliers in the area. She is also just very nice. Don't expect haute cuisine, but very well-made dishes. The menu features French classics as well as modern dishes from around the world. Everything is equally tasty, yummy! You're sure to leave here with a big smile on your face.

La table de Barrès makes us very happy. This restaurant in the nearby picturesque village of Saint-Vincent-de-Barrès is vraiment canon. Sylvain cooks at a high level, Margot takes care of the guests with visible pleasure. The ingredients come from the local area. For example, the delicious organic bread from Boulangerie Décroissant in Saint-Lager-Bressac. Every dish is like a painting on a plate. And believe us: you'll want to lick your plate clean, it's all so delicious.

In Coux, a fifteen-minute drive away, you will find Le Poivre d'Ane. It is one of those lovely, traditional auberges where the food is superb. Just reading the names of the dishes will make your mouth water. Who can resist a tartelette aux fraises, crémeux de citron, glace maison à la fraise, which is actually one and the same dessert? It all looks so beautiful too. And the prices? Very reasonable!

Bistro Resto Lulu's in Privas is also about a fifteen-minute drive from us. It is a charming restaurant and salon de thé with a vintage vibe. The young owners are a couple: he is French, she is English. Pierre-Jean is in the kitchen, Alexandra does the patisserie (and often the service too). On the colourful terrace, you can enjoy the most delicious dishes and drinks, alcoholic or non-alcoholic. Quite unusual for France: vegetarians and vegans also have plenty of choice here. Pierre-Jean and Alexandra's attention to the world of today and tomorrow is evident in their choice of suppliers: local and organic. See, that's another reason why we're fans!
